TL;DR. My review of Vapor Central, a members only lounge serving the niche of marijuana consumers.

The Weed Lounge

Vapor Central is a weed lounge located at Yonge and Charles just across from the Shoppers Drug Mart two store fronts North of Toronto Hemp Company (THC). They host movie nights, comedy shows and other community events targets at Stoners. The entrance fee is usually $10 cover unless you’ve bought the annual membership for $90. Unfortunately their October half price sale ended and memberships are no longer $45. They do not sell weed, and functions on the bring-your-own-weed (BYOW) rule. Smoking tobacco and alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited on the premise.

The Entrance

The lounge itself is located on the second floor of the units accessible though a single plain glass door. The steps are pretty tedious to navigate if you have a phobia of heights or walking-in high.

Once up the stairs you are greeted by another door followed by a poor-excuse of a turnstile. It’s there for the pscholoical effect rather than the physical effect of impeding movement. This obstacle gets rather annoying after your first visit.

Seating

The lounge offers well-used couches that feel like you’re being swallowed up by Big Bubba. You will trip out the first time you sit in them. They’re located at the front portion of the room. The sides are lined with small 2-4 person tables. The tables come in 2 sizes; bar stool height and folding chair height.

Tools of the Trade

Vapor Central offers free use of their Volcano Vaporizers, which lines the side of the room taking up every single plug available. To get a better imagine, every 5 meters is an 2 plug outlet, which translates to 2 Volcanoes per 5 meter wall space. Vaporizer bags are acquired by the dry bar. Plastic sharp teethed grinders are available for rent as long as you drop a license for insurance. They have a bong bar with a wide variety of bongs available for rent. The price ranges from $6 to $12 and it is yours to use till you leave Vapor Central. A random assortment of rolling papers and filters are freely available by the bar for your rolling pleasure. The host or hostess will come by and provide you with a glass plate to act as the container and a glass bowl for ash. Every method of marijuana consumption is available here except for marijuana edibles.

Entertainment

Their comedy shows suck. Every week a new comedian comes to perform, but for the times that I’ve been there, they suck. Despite owning a membership, I’m still required to pay a $5 entrance fee to see the comedy show. Terrible deal.

On the bright side you may request the volume turned up on the music or TV shows playing on their numerous TVs. The upper sides of the walls are covered with flat-screens spaced about 7 meters apart with two projectors. The front of the room is a mixed mess of projectors and TVs, my speculation is that they got lazy with the internal design and smoked a bowl instead. The lounge broadcasts from Comedy Central, Net Flicks and downloaded TV Shows. Recently they’ve been playing “The Walking Dead” and on the odd occasion they just blast music. Again, it is all very customer-oriented, just put in a request and they’ll try to accommodate you.

Customer Service

For the most part the employees are all very nice and busy people with the exception of one. The scrawny white guy who mans the front desk is a bit of a prick. He is the only Stoner I’ve ever met in my life who is still a prick when high. Terrible attitude. There’s a white chick who’s very helpful, decent looking, tattooed up and she takes the biggest bong hits. Do not mess with her, she’ll smoke you out.

The Crowd

Depending on the time of day and which day, you will be a wide variety of people from all walks of life. Early weekdays you’ll see some old folks coming in with their McDonald’s coffee, news paper and casually light up a joint. Around mid evening you get the professionals coming off work or school dropping by and enjoying the fruits of their labor. Then there are the night owls, a younger crowd with baggy jeans living the thug lyfe just chilling, hitting bowls, and being stoned. Last, there’s us, the token Asian guys. We drop by in our free time maybe after a study session, before work, after lunch, just random drop-ins. Every time I see another Asian group I feel a ping of pride, perhaps I’m still getting use to the culture.

Weekends is just a huge crowd of mix and matches. A group of Lesbian, Gays, Bisexuals, Transexuals (LGBT), bunch of teenagers with some jailbait tagging along, the smiley old women vaping on her own, everyone from everywhere. It is so diverse that no matter how thorough I stereotype, I’ll still be missing a group.
